Cumbrian Tourism and Conservation Partnership

Osprey As part of our ongoing commitment to help conserve the beauty and wildlife of the National Park we have joined the Cumbrian Tourism and Conservation Partnership. This is a group that actively seeks to help fund individual conservation projects in Cumbria so that the natural environment can continue to be enjoyed  by all our visitors.

We have committed to the following procedures.

We have joined the Tourism and Conservation Partnership. This is a charity which to date has raised over £1,000,000 for conservation projects, helping to maintain the stunning landscapes, wildlife and special wild places you expect to enjoy when you visit Cumbria. In order to contribute we will add an entirely voluntary £1 per person per stay to your bill, 100% of which will go directly to support Howe Keld’s two chosen projects, namely the Ospreys of Bassenthwaite and Red Squirrels. As a business in addition to the annual participation fee we pay, for stays of 3 days or more, for every donation you make we will match your generosity by undertaking to contribute £1 per room per stay. You may see red squirrels locally when out walking by the Lake, on Latrigg or in the Winlatter, Thirlmere, Grizedale and Ullswater areas. Please tell us if you see any, we can inform the Partnership who are recording populations.

Please let us know if you would like to opt out of this scheme.

We have produced an environmental policy.

Reduced our energy inputs and outputs in terms of consumption, recycling and pollution.

We have achieved the bronze award from CBEN (Cumbria Business Environmental Network).

We have been given a Gold Award by the  Green Tourism Business Scheme - not an easy achievement! This is the main body in the UK for sustainable tourism and we are delighted to receive it.
